B-2 (Tourist) Visa

B-2 (Tourist) Visa

The B-2 visa, also known as the visitor visa for pleasure or tourist visa, is designed for individuals who wish to visit the United States temporarily for non-business activities. It allows visitors to engage in a wide range of leisure activities, including vacations, visits to friends and family, tourism, and medical treatments. Additionally, amateur performers, athletes, and participants in short-term classes may also be eligible for the B-2 visa.

Eligibility:

To qualify for a B-2 visa, applicants must demonstrate their intent to engage in non-business activities while in the United States. They should provide documentation and written explanations outlining the nature of their intended tourist activities, how they will support themselves during their stay, ties to their home country, and their intent to depart the U.S. upon completion of the visit.

B-2 visa holders are prohibited from engaging in any business-related activities, employment, or academic study during their stay. They must not have the intention to work or immigrate to the United States.

Validity / Extensions:

B-2 visas are typically granted for ten years, with each entry allowing a stay of up to six months at the U.S. port of entry. However, individuals can request an extension of stay for an additional six months if needed. This extension is subject to review by USCIS and requires additional information and evidence supporting the request, including activities planned and proof of return flight ticket.

As of April 2019, there is a requirement for a biometric check for B-2 visa applicants.

Family Members:

Each family member accompanying the primary visa holder must apply for their individual B-2 visa. Interviews may be waived for children under 13 and adults over 80.
